Maker Name: Anna Gardiner
What do you make/sell? Natural clay, eco friendly jewellery
What processes do you use to make your items? I create colours and patterns in the clay with gouache, roll out and cut the slab into shapes then, when dry, I drill holes, sand each piece by hand, seal with lacquer and assemble, using stainless steel findings.
Some interesting points to note about your business and/or products? I try to have as little environmental impact as possible with my choices of materials and packaging and each piece is a unique one off.
Do you have a favourite product you make and why? It's all fun because each piece is unique but I'd say the statement earrings are my favourite, because of the size of them.
Do you use any sustainable practices in the production of your items? My packaging is recyclable or biodegradable, the clay I use isn't plastic based for this reason. It's 95% natural and if you wanted to dispose of the jewellery you could by soaking it in water, it will dissolve.
What do you love about handmade items and having a handmade business? The joy you get from being hands on and creative! As well as seeing other people enjoying your product.
What do you like about being a member of the Blue Mountains Makers? The community is great, I love seeing what all the other makers are creating and joining together for markets is so much fun. It's also wonderful to have proof of just how creative the Blue Mountains community really is!
What do you like about living in the Blue Mountains (or surrounding regional areas)? The peace and quiet, the nature and the arts/crafts events that the region holds.
